Struggling with my own contemplations with death I was curious how does decay present itself in other forms? To explore this question I drew my name and then worked with a friend to 3D print the letters and create the molds to fill with water and freeze. During this process the most striking revelation was how the forms of the frozen letters decayed in a way similar to us as humans. The forms shrunk in size, the “skeleton” of the ice became more visible, and there was a fragility to the structure that became more apparent with time. Decay presents itself in a similar way across different forms whether they are alive or not and with that shows we are maybe more connected to the natural world around us than we know?
